Two major world religions are celebrating their respective holidays this week. Muslims celebrated Milad-un-Nabi this past Friday. Which commemorates the birth of God's last messenger, Mohammad (PBUH). Muslims believe that Mohammad has simply added to the words delivered by the great messengers that preceded him. Which include Moses and Jesus (May Allah be pleased with them). Therefore the message of Moses is the message of Mohammad(PBUH) the message of Jesus is the message of Mohammad(PBUH). Accordingly Muslims take time out and reflect upon his teachings. After which we get a better sense of why he truly is a mercy for all mankind.
Incidentally this past Friday was also Good Friday which leads into Easter. I am woefully ignorant of the significance of these holidays. Does anyone care to enlighten me?

Good Friday commemorates the death of Jesus. Easter Sunday proclaims that he rose from the dead. The two dates are part of what some denominations call Holy Week, which follows Jesus's journey from hero of the crowds to sorrowful and betrayed man, despised prisoner at the center of a religious and political struggle, inconvenient corpse, and inconveniently missing corpse, spotted walking around alive by a few friends. It's all terribly complicated, really, and it takes place against the historical backdrop of Passover, which doesn't always match up in observance dates now because the calculations are done differently. What happened that particular Passover forms part of the excuse some Christians have used for persecuting Jews through the ages. But then, some humans will always find an excuse for being mean to other humans.
I plan to write a little bit tonight about my church's rituals this past week. Feel free to drop by if you're curious.
I hope your Milad-un-Nabi was a good one, full of prayerful reflection and insight. From what little I know of you, I suspect that it was!
